    Formal primary education began in Saudi Arabia in the s. By , King Abdulaziz bin Abdelrahman Al-Saud, the country’s founder, had begun an extensive program to establish schools in the Kingdom. This means that there are no co-educational institutions, marking Saudi Arabia as one of the few countries that aligns to a single-sex school system.     Islam is the state religion of Saudi connection between Islam and Saudi Arabia (or at least the western Hejaz region of the country) is uniquely strong.
